Consul General Jin Zhijian and Wife Attending Spring Festival Gala of NZCFS Christchuch Branch

On January 29, of, Consul General Jin Zhijian and his wife was invited to attend the 2017 Spring Festival Gala of the New Zealand-China Friendship Society(NZCFS) Christchurch branch. New Zealand Speaker of the House, David Carter, Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel, Ashburton District Mayor Donna Favel, NZCFS Christchurch branch chairman, Chris Goodwin and close to 100 others attended.

In his speech, Consul General Jin extended festive greetings to everyone and affirmed the long-time active role in which the NZCFS has played in promoting Sino-New Zealand friendship developments. He briefed the guests on the development of Sino-New Zealand relations during the past year and the positive progress of the interactions between China and the South Island. He looked forward to commemorating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Mr Rewi Alley’s 120th birthday anniversary, the 90th anniversary of his arrival in China and the 30th anniversary of his death to further deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation in all fields to better benefit the two peoples.

Mr Carter expressed his best wishes to all the Chinese in New Zealand. He fondly recalled his visit to China last October, spoke highly of the remarkable development of the relationship between New Zealand and China, and looked forward to greater progress in friendly exchanges between the New Zealand Parliament and the National People’s Congress and other departments in China in the new year.

In her speech, Mayor Dalziel wished everyone a happy Spring Festival and prosperous year of the Rooster. She was gratified by the achievements made in the exchanges between Christchurch and China during the past year and welcomed the growing number of Chinese tourists visiting the city. She also positively recognized the important contributions made by the Chinese community in Christchurch in promoting local economic and social development.

Mr. Goodwin wished every guest a happy new year in Mandarin, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Consulate General and all circles of the society for all the support given to the friendship society in the past year and wished the friendship between the two countries to open a new chapter in the new year.
