Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch Held Reception to Bid Farewell to Deputy Consul General Gong Chunsen and Welcome New Deputy Consul General Zhai Xingfu

On November 28, the Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch held a reception to bid farewell to Deputy Consul General Gong Chunsen and welcome his successor, Mr. Zhai Xingfu. More than 60 guests including City Councillor Jimmy Chen as representative of the Mayor, officials from City Council and other relevant local government agencies, friends from all walks of life, representatives from the Chinese communities, Chinese enterprises as well as Chinese students attended the reception.

Consul General Wang Zhijian in his remarks acknowledged Deputy Consul General Gong for his contributions to promoting China's relationship with South Island, and wished him and his family a safe journey back home and all the best in the future posting. Consul General Wang also warmly welcomed the assumption of Mr. Zhai as the new Deputy Consul General and called upon all circles for their support to his future work. He believed Mr Zhai will soon become a good friend to people from all walks of life in Christchurch and make his own contributions to pushing forward the bilateral relationship.

Deputy Consul General Gong said he felt fortunate to witness the all-round progress made in relations between China and South Island during his tenure. He expressed thanks for the valuable support from local friends from all walks of life, and expected China-NZ friendship being promoted from generation to generation.

Deputy Consul General Zhai said he was privileged to have the opportunity to work in the Consulate General in Christchurch, with impression of friendliness of South Island people and beautiful scenery beforehand. He said he will work along with colleagues in the Consulate General to promote new progress of cooperation between South Island and China so as to make positive contributions to the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

Councillor Jimmy Chen, on behalf of the mayor and City Council, spoke highly of the contributions made by Deputy Consul General Gong to promoting cooperation between China and South Island in various fields, and wished him well back to China with good memories of the South Island. Councillor Chen also warmly welcomed the arrival of Deputy Consul General Zhai, and looked forward to working together with Mr Zhai to continuously uplift the level of bilateral relations.
