Consul General Wang Zhijian Met with New Director of Christchurch Antarctic Office

On December 11, Consul General Wang Zhijian met with David Kennedy, the new director of ChristchurchNZ Antarctic Office. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between China and Christchurch on Antarctic affairs.

Consul General Wang congratulated Mr. Kennedy on his assumption of the new role. He pointed out that as China is speeding up the preparatory work for constructing its fifth Antarctic research station, the bilateral Antarctic cooperation is faced with important opportunity. He acknowledged the outstanding achievements in facilitating bilateral Antarctic cooperation by the Antarctic Office. He said the Chinese Consulate General would continue to maintain close communication and collaboration with the Antarctic Office to take full advantage of the resources of Christchurch as Gateway to Antarctica so as to expand cooperation and exchanges in scientific expedition, academic research, technical training and logistical support.

Mr. Kennedy said Christchurch is ready to give play to its advantages to provide comprehensive support and facilitation to China’s Antarctic expedition. He looked forward to working with the Chinese side to further tap potentials of bilateral cooperation on Antarctic affairs.
