Consul General Jin Zhijian and Wife Hold Farewell Reception

On 29th August, Consul General Jin Zhijian and his wife held farewell reception in Christchurch Arts Center. More than 200 guests attended the function, including Rt Hon David Carter, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Minister Supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration Nicky Wagner, Members of Parliament Megan Woods, Ruth Dyson, Poto Williams, Raymond Huo, Special Advisor and Director Christchurch for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Amb. Phillip Gibson, Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel and Christchurch City Councillors, more than 10 present and former South Island Mayors, Canterbury Police District Commander John Price and friends from various circles, representatives of Chinese community, Chinese enterprises and overseas students in the consular district.

Consul General Jin in his remarks reflected upon the unforgettable work and life experiences during his tenure, feeling gratified about the significant progress made in the exchanges and cooperation between China and South Island in various fields over the past three years. He expressed heartfelt thanks for the great support to the Consulate and himself from friends in various government and civic circles, Chinese community, Chinese enterprises and overseas students. He expected the relationship between China and South Island to be advanced to a new level with the joint efforts from all sides.

Speaker Carter, Minister Wagner, Mayor Dalziel, Amb. Gibson, MP Huo and Superintendent Price delivered remarks respectively. They spoke highly of Consul General Jin's important contributions to promoting the friendly interactions between China and South Island and deepening the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields during his tenure, expressing appreciation for his professionalism, pragmatism and personal charm. And they also expressed longing for further promoting the development of bilateral relationship and tapping the cooperation potential.




Christchurch Mayor Dalziel presented on behalf of Christchurch City Council to Consul General Jin the Certificate of Honorary Citizen of Christchurch in recognition for his important roles in developing the relations between Christchurch and China. Superintendent Price awarded Consul General Jin a Certificate for his valuable support to building the multi-ethnic communities of Canterbury.


A VCR was displayed on site showing bits and pieces of their stay in South Island over the past three years, arousing strong resonance among the guests. The Christchurch Chinese Art Group also presented performance.


The guests bid farewell to Consul General Jin and his wife, telling each other to take care, expressing gratitude and reluctance to part, and wishing them all the best in their new posting.
